What is a good ATS score?
A good ATS score is roughly 80 out of 100 or higher. That is the range where your resume parses cleanly, has dated roles and quantified bullet points, and carries the skills recruiters search for. Below about 60 you are usually losing data in parsing or missing the role's keywords.
The free ATS score checker above (some job seekers call it an ATS CV checker or a resume ATS score check) rates your resume out of 100 and shows exactly what to fix. Honest caveat: a high score on a weak resume is still a weak resume. The score measures readability and completeness, not whether you fit the role.
Is there a free ATS score checker without login?
Yes, this one. No login, no sign up, no email, and no card, and that includes the job description match. Upload the PDF, read the score, and every failing check is named on the same page. The pattern to watch for elsewhere is a checker that shows a number, tells you there are eleven problems, then asks you to register or pay before it says what they are.
Nothing here is held back: the checklist is visible, the PDF report downloads without an account, and pasting a job description to see your ATS score against that specific JD is free as well.
ATS score checker: what your number means
The score is out of 100 and it grades six things: contact details, summary length, dated roles, quantified bullet points, action verbs, and relevant skills. Here is what each band actually tells you to do next.
| ATS score | What it means | Do this next |
|---|---|---|
| 80 to 100 | Parses cleanly and carries the signals recruiters search for. Nothing structural is in your way. | Stop editing. Volume is your bottleneck now, not the document. |
| 60 to 79 | Readable, but one or two checks are failing. Usually missing dates or bullet points with no numbers in them. | Fix only the flagged checks. Twenty minutes of edits, then re-run. |
| Below 60 | Data is being lost before anyone reads it. Often an image-based PDF, a two-column layout, or contact details stuck in a header. | Rebuild in a single-column layout and export a real text PDF before applying anywhere. |
Scores are not portable between tools. Every checker weights its own checks, so an 82 here and a 74 somewhere else can describe the same resume. Use the failing checks, not the number, as your to-do list. More on the bands in what an ATS score is.
How to run a resume ATS check in three steps
- 1
Upload a text-based PDF
Export from Word, Google Docs, or any resume builder. Up to 10MB. A scan or a phone photo of a printed resume has no readable text, so no checker can score it, and no applicant tracking system can either.
- 2
Read your score out of 100
You get the number plus every individual check marked pass or fix. The checks are the useful part. The number is only there to tell you how far you are from clean.
- 3
Fix what is flagged, then re-upload
Dates on every role, numbers inside bullet points, a strong verb at the front of each line, at least three skills the role actually asks for. Re-run and confirm the score moved before you apply again.
Is this an ATS friendly resume checker?
Yes, and the phrase is worth unpacking. ATS friendly means software can read every part of your resume and find what a recruiter searches for. The three things that break that most often are an image-based PDF, a two-column layout that scrambles reading order, and contact details placed inside a header or footer that parsers skip.
This checker tests all three by pulling the actual text out of your file, which is the same first step every applicant tracking system takes. If your text comes back empty or scrambled, you will see it here before a recruiter does.
Seven things a recruiter scans for in ten seconds
Contact details that work
A real name, a valid email, a phone number. Sounds obvious. A surprising number of resumes miss one.
A summary that is the right length
One to three sentences. Long enough to frame you, short enough that a recruiter actually reads it.
Dated roles
Every job needs a start and end. Gaps are fine. Missing dates read as hiding something, even when you are not.
Quantified impact
Numbers in your bullet points. Counts, percentages, amounts. Increased X by 30 beats helped with X every time.
Strong action verbs
Built, shipped, led, cut. Not responsible for or worked on. The verb is the first word a recruiter's eye lands on.
Enough relevant skills
At least three, ideally the ones the role asks for. This is also what ATS keyword search matches against.
One honest caveat
A high score on a weak resume is still a weak resume. This tool measures whether your resume is readable and complete, not whether you fit the role. Fix what it flags, then spend your energy applying to enough of the right openings. More applications of a weak profile is just faster rejection.
A clean resume is step one. Applying at volume is step two.

Frequently asked questions
Got questions? We've got answers. Contact us if you can't find what you're looking for.
Is the ATS resume checker free?
Yes. The score, the fix checklist, and the job description match are all free, with no login and no card. You upload a PDF, your browser reads the text, and you get an ATS score out of 100 in seconds. Paste a job description as well and you also get your keyword match against that specific role plus every keyword you are missing.
What is an ATS score?
Applicant tracking systems are the software recruiters use to read and search resumes. Our score rates how cleanly your resume reads and whether it has the things a recruiter scans for: a real name and contact details, dated roles, quantified bullet points, strong action verbs, and enough skills. Honestly, it is a resume-quality heuristic, not a verdict on whether you will get the job.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Fix the checks marked to fix. The common ones: export a real text-based PDF, not a scan or an image. Put dates on every role. Add numbers to your bullet points, counts, percentages, amounts. Replace weak phrasing like responsible for with a strong verb. List at least three relevant skills.
Does a high ATS score mean I will get interviews?
No, and here is the honest version. A high score on a weak resume is still a weak resume. The score measures whether your resume is readable and complete, not whether you fit the role. Fix the resume first, then apply to enough of the right openings. More applications of a weak profile is just faster rejection.
Is my resume stored anywhere?
No. The PDF is read in your browser to pull out the text, and only that text is scored. We do not save the file. The score is shown to you and nothing is kept.
Which file formats work?
A text-based PDF, up to 10MB. If you exported your resume from Word, Google Docs, or a resume builder, it will work. A scan or a photo of a printed resume will not, because there is no real text to read.
Is this an ATS friendly resume checker?
Yes. ATS friendly means a machine can read every part of your resume and find the information a recruiter searches for.
That is exactly what the checker tests: whether the PDF has real text, whether contact details parse, whether roles carry dates, and whether your skills appear as plain text rather than inside an image, a table, or a header. It tells you which of those are failing, not just a number.
Can I use it as a CV checker or CV ATS checker?
Yes. CV and resume mean the same document for most Indian job applications, and the checks are identical either way: readable text, dated roles, quantified bullet points, relevant skills. Upload the PDF you actually send to recruiters, whatever you call it.
Do I need to sign up to see my ATS score?
No. Upload, score, checklist, and the job description keyword match, all without an account, an email, or a card. Nothing is held back behind a signup wall and nothing is charged to reveal what is wrong.
A free ApplyCove account adds the parts that cannot happen in a single pass: rewriting your bullet points to carry the missing keywords, and scoring every new role against your profile automatically.
Is there a free ATS resume checker with no login?
This is one, including the job description match. No login, no sign up, no email capture, no card. Upload the PDF and the score plus every failing check appears immediately, and the report downloads as a PDF without an account. Watch for checkers that show a number, claim eleven issues, then require registration or payment before naming any of them.
Can I check my ATS score with a job description?
Yes, free and without an account. Open the optional job description box under the upload area and paste the full posting. You get a keyword match percentage for that role alongside your ATS score, plus every keyword the posting asks for that your resume is missing. The dedicated walkthrough lives at the ATS score checker with job description page.
How is this different from a resume score checker?
Same tool, different wording. A resume score checker and an ATS score checker both grade whether your resume is readable and complete. What matters is whether the score comes with the specific fixes, and whether the checks are honest about what they measure. Ours rates six parse-and-completeness signals out of 100 and names each failing check.
